Art Bags & Cases

Art bags and cases are built for one purpose: getting your work from one place to another without damage. This collection covers the full range of professional art transport – from the X-Port Expandable Portfolio, a uniquely designed top-loading case that stands on its own and expands to 6 inches deep, to hard-sided polyethylene shipping cases built to survive checked baggage and freight. Whether you're carrying a dozen prints to a client meeting, rolling blueprints to a job site, or shipping original artwork across the country, the right case makes the difference between work that arrives in perfect condition and work that doesn't.

About Portfolio Books and Binders

What types of art bags and cases are available?

Art bags and cases fall into four distinct categories, each designed for a different transport need.

X-Port Expandable Portfolios are top-loading soft-sided cases with rigid corrugated plastic sides and a Velcro flap closure. They expand to 6 inches deep for bulky materials, collapse flat for slim loads, and stand upright on their own for easy loading and unloading. Available in eight sizes from 12"×16" to 41"×61".

Artwork Shipping Cases are rigid two-piece polyethylene clamshell cases with foam-lined interiors, metal-reinforced corners, and exterior buckle straps – built for checked airline luggage, freight shipping, and long-term archival storage of flat artwork. Available in five sizes from 16"×20" to 33"×42".

Art & Poster Tubes are large-diameter cylindrical cases for rolled artwork, blueprints, and posters, with a rigid paperboard interior liner and a water-resistant polyester canvas exterior. Available in 6-inch and 8-inch diameters and lengths from 31 to 50 inches.

Hard Side Art Cases are attache-style clamshell cases with a wood core, leather grain vinyl exterior, and keyed latches – designed to carry a small number of flat prints or documents with a professional, briefcase-like appearance. Available in three sizes from 14"×18" to 20"×26".

How do I choose the right art bag or case?

Choosing the right art bag or case starts with identifying your primary use: carrying to meetings, shipping for transit, transporting rolled materials, or presenting with a professional appearance.

For carrying flat artwork, prints, boards, and documents to client meetings, gallery reviews, art fairs, or job sites – the X-Port Expandable Portfolio is the most practical choice for most buyers.

For shipping or checking artwork as airline luggage, where the case will be handled by freight carriers or baggage handlers without your supervision – the Artwork Shipping Case provides the hard-shell protection, foam lining, and buckle straps that soft cases cannot.

For transporting rolled artwork, architectural drawings, or large-format posters without creasing – choose an Art & Poster Tube sized to your longest dimension, with an 8-inch diameter for heavy stock and a 6-inch diameter for standard paper.

For carrying a small number of high-value prints or documents to a client or business meeting where a professional executive appearance matters – the Hard Side Art Case delivers an attache-style look with keyed security that no soft case can match.

What size art bag or case do I need?

Sizing an art bag or case correctly means matching the case's interior flat dimension to your largest piece of artwork or material – never the other way around.

For X-Port Expandable Portfolios and Artwork Shipping Cases, the size listed refers to the usable interior flat dimension: a 20"×26" X-Port holds work up to 20"×26", and a 24"×30" shipping case holds artwork up to approximately 24.25"×30.25". If you regularly carry a mix of sizes, choose the case that fits your largest format – smaller work travels safely in a larger case, held in place by the gusset or interior strap.

For Art & Poster Tubes, match the tube length to the longest dimension of your rolled artwork: a 36-inch-wide print requires at least a 37-inch tube. Choose the 8-inch diameter for heavier stock such as canvas, bond paper, or architectural drawings where a tighter roll causes excessive curl; the 6-inch diameter is sufficient for standard paper posters and photography prints.

For Hard Side Art Cases, all three sizes share a 2.5-inch interior depth – appropriate for stacks of flat prints, drawings, and documents but not for foam-core mounted work or items with significant thickness, for which the X-Port Expandable Portfolio is the better choice.
