How to assemble and customize your screwpost portfolio book
All screwpost portfolio books start with a pair of hinged covers with a screwpost binding system (show sample of book without inserts). Covers are available in a variety of materials and formats. This one is a Machina screwpost portfolio book in the very popular 11”x8.5” portrait format.
Next, insert your pages. There are a variety of page types (show quick group shot of the various page types) that fit our screwpost portfolios, which are described in detail in another video. You insert your pages by placing the binding holes of the pages over the screwposts. When all of your pages are in place, place the cover over the screwposts, place the screws at the ends of the posts, and turn them until they are secure.
If your pages do not fit on the included screwposts, you will need the screwpost extension pack (show sample). Simply screw the extension post onto the original post to extend it.
Once your screwpost portfolio book is fully assembled, you can complete the package with a zippered nylon outer jacket or a padded transport jacket. The zippered nylon jacket protects your book from dust, fingerprints, and scratches. The padded transport jacket gives additional protection in case the book is dropped or experiences any impact.
For a more customized or personalized look, you can add your own artwork or logo to the cover with laser etching (show sample) or color imprinting (show sample). Normal turnaround time on imprinting or etching is one week, but one-day turnaround is also available for customers with tight deadlines.
How to select page protectors or insert for your screwpost portfolio book
There are a variety of inserts that you can use with your screwpost portfolio book
1. Archival Polypropylene Sheet Protectors With Black Liner. This is our most versatile and popular type of sheet protector. This type of sheet protector is made from a very clear acid free material that is inert, heat resistant and chemically stable, all of which means it is perfectly safe for your artwork . It is sealed on three sides and loads from the top. It has a sheet of acid free and lignin free black paper that serves as an attractive background and a separator when your artwork is smaller than the full size of the sheet protector. It has holes punched along the binding edge and is scored along the edge to form a hinge so that the pages can be turned (show a page being turned in a portfolio). The hole pattern is compatible with screwpost portfolios as well as most brands of multi-ring binders and presentation cases on the market.
2. Economy Archival Polypropylene Sheet Protectors. This is our most economical sheet protector for use with our screwpost portfolios. This sheet protector is made from the same quality acid free archival polypropylene as our more expensive sheet protectors and has the same top-loading design, but it does not come with a black paper liner. If the artwork you are using matches the sheet size of the protector, you will probably not need the black paper liner anyway, so this may be your best choice. These sheet protectors are punched with a hole pattern that fits our screwpost portfolio books, but will not fit in a multiring portfolio or presentation case. So, if you will be using the sheet protectors only in your screwpost portfolio and if your documents are the full size of the protector these sheet protectors will save you money by eliminating the black paper lining that you really don’t need.
3. Archival Flex-Hinge Polyester Sheet Protectors. Polyester is by far the clearest material you can use for a sheet protector. However, until now, polyester sheet protectors could not be used in screwpost portfolio books because the material cannot be scored to form a hinge. These Archival Flex-Hinge Polyester Sheet Protectors solve this problem by bonding a flexible hinge material to the edge of the sheet (show), which allows the sheets to lie flat when the pages are turned (show a page being turned in a portfolio). Since they are made from a single folded sheet of material, they are open at both the top and bottom. This should be no cause for concern in most cases, because friction holds the documents in the sheet protector very securely (show a page or a book being shaken up and down with a document inside). If you want the ultimate in clarity and pages that lie flat, these polyester sheet protectors are the choice for you.
4. Adhesive Hinge Strips. Sometimes you don’t want anything to get between your artwork and the person viewing it. For those occasions, our adhesive hinge strips are just what you need. Simply pull back the release liner to expose the archival adhesive (demonstrate) and adhere your artwork to the adhesive edge (demonstrate). Now your artwork is ready to be placed in your screwpost portfolio book (demonstrate), since the strips are pre-punched with the proper hole pattern and provide a hinge action to allow your artwork to lie flat when the book is opened (demonstrate). Adhesive hinge strips work with both screwpost portfolio books and 3-ring binders.
5. Prepunched Inkjet Paper for Screwpost Portfolios. Perhaps the most direct way to get your artwork into a screwpost portfolio book is to print directly on our prepunched matte inkjet paper (show a closeup of a document being printed on a sheet of inkjet paper), then show a printed sample of the inkjet paper). The sheets are made of double-sided, smooth, bright white, heavyweight matte paper and are prepunched and scored so they can be bound in a screwpost portfolio.
